The relationship between the sales representative and the dental practice has changed dramatically in recent years. At one time, a quality product was all that was needed to sell to your customers. Today, a quality product is merely a prerequisite to “opening the door” to the doctor’s practice. Product support has always been an important element in establishing a strong rapport with a given practice; however, this is no longer sufficient to establish and maintain a long term relationship.
To establish and maintain a long term, mutually beneficial relationship, the sales representative must recognize that what is good for the doctor’s practice is good for the sales representative. Increased sales will flow from the sales representative’s efforts to assist and support the doctor in his or her practice. The most effective way to increase the use of products in a dental practice is to create opportunities for comprehensive treatment planning via the study club. As the practices involved in the study club become more committed to comprehensive dentistry, the higher quality care they will deliver and the more products they will use.
Creating a partnership with Seattle Study Club is an opportunity to do business in a more effective and rewarding way. This new approach will undoubtedly incorporate some of the things that you already do on a daily basis. However, there is an increased emphasis on the integration of all of the components into a comprehensive plan.
The key to the entire program lies in one simple statement: “If you want to sell more products, stop selling and start helping these doctors build their practices.” This, combined with strengthened relationships based on your involvement in the club, will create a level of customer loyalty that resembles friendship more than anything else.
